Susana Malcorra

Susana Malcorra (born in 1954, Argentina) is the current United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Field Support. She was appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in March 2008.[1]

Biography

Previously, she served as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Programme, where she oversaw daily emergency and humanitarian operations in more than 80 countries. During the tsunami emergency in December 2004, she led the first phase of the operational response and mustered human resources, budget, finance, information, technology, telecommunications, administration and security to deal with the disaster.

She has more than 25 years' experience in the private sector before joining the WFP and has worked in leadership roles at IBM and Telecom Argentina.

Malcorra graduated from the University of Rosario, in Argentina.
